Selangor’s state government plans to centralize pig farming in Bukit Tagar within three years, aiming to improve waste management and reduce environmental harm, following the Sultan’s criticism of large-scale operations as insensitive to the Muslim-majority population.
The move, which includes closed-system farms with zero emissions on 202 hectares, follows concerns over pollution, odors, and drainage issues in Kuala Langat.
The Sultan expressed disappointment over the project’s scale and export focus, questioning its necessity and transparency, while urging a market study and warning against compromising public welfare.
The government will brief the Sultan on January 12 about the new measures.
