Louisiana proposes a 10-day hunt for whistling ducks in Oct. 2026, with a 4-ducks-per-day limit and free permit.
The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission has proposed new 2026–27 hunting rules, including a 10-day special season for black-bellied whistling ducks from October 3–11 with a four-ducks-per-day bag limit, requiring a free permit and harvest reporting. The species has expanded significantly since the early 2000s. Other changes include closing parts of Biloxi, Boeuf, and Russell Sage WMAs to public access from November 1 through the light geese Conservation Order, a youth squirrel season on private lands, a special archery season for antlered bucks in certain deer areas, updated deer hunting definitions, expanded opportunities for disabled veterans, and set seasons for Bogue Chitto and Flatwoods Savannah WMAs. Public comment is open until March 5, 2026, with a Zoom meeting to be announced.
