Goldfest 2026 launched in Ahmedabad on January 10, celebrating 50 years of Indo-Japan friendship and the first anniversary of the sister city ties between Ahmedabad and Hamamatsu, along with the sister state relationship with Shizuoka Prefecture.
The five-day cultural festival, organized by the Indo-Japan Friendship Association of Gujarat, began with the "Patang-O-Dori" kite exhibition featuring Japanese kites, Hamamatsu lanterns, and shared cultural narratives on kite-flying traditions.
Inaugurated by Megumi Shimada, Consul for Cultural Affairs at the Japanese Consulate in Mumbai, the event includes Japanese music, matcha culture displays, and public exhibitions on January 11–12.
Themed "Kem Chhe – Konnichiwa," the festival aims to strengthen cultural and strategic ties between India and Japan, reflecting their long-standing civilizational and spiritual connections under their Special Strategic and Global Partnership.
