A fire in a Welland apartment building caused smoke inhalation in multiple residents but no hospitalizations.
A fire broke out early Saturday morning at an apartment building in Welland, Ontario, at 52 Promenade Richelieu, with flames and heavy smoke reported from Unit 402 on the fourth floor around 2:29 a.m.
Multiple residents suffered smoke inhalation but none required hospitalization.
Due to smoke-filled stairwells, two additional ladder trucks were dispatched from Pelham and Port Colborne.
The fire was controlled within an hour, displaced residents were sheltered on a city bus, and most were allowed to return as smoke cleared.
Fire crews remained on scene until 7:30 a.m.
The cause is under investigation.
