As of Jan. 10, 2026, Indian civil service exam candidates must use AI facial recognition for identity checks to prevent cheating.
Starting January 10, 2026, all candidates taking Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exams in India, including those for IAS, IFS, and IPS positions, must undergo facial authentication at test centers.
The move, aimed at improving exam security and preventing impersonation, uses AI-powered facial recognition to verify identities by matching live images with registration photos.
The system, tested in a pilot during September 2025 exams, reduces verification time to 8–10 seconds.
The UPSC said the technology enhances accuracy and streamlines check-in, marking a key step in modernizing national-level recruitment exams.
