A 16-year-old boy died in a Baton Rouge shooting after a 24-year-old man accidentally fired a gun while startled.
A 16-year-old boy, Charleston Wright, died in an accidental shooting Thursday night in Baton Rouge after being struck by a gun fired by Jerry Smith, 24, who was startled by a noise.
The incident occurred outside the 3800 block of Ozark Street around 9:35 p.m., and Wright was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Smith was arrested and booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on negligent homicide charges.
Authorities have not released further details, and the investigation is ongoing.
