The Madras High Court halted the release of Vijay's film Jana Nayagan, staying a lower court's order granting a U/A 16 certificate.
The Madras High Court has stayed a lower court order directing the Central Board of Film Certification to grant a U/A 16 certificate for actor Vijay’s film Jana Nayagan, halting its scheduled January 9 release.
The stay came after the CBFC appealed, arguing it hadn’t had time to respond to the producers’ petition and that its authority to refer films to a review committee was valid.
The single judge had previously ruled the CBFC’s referral was beyond jurisdiction, calling a late complaint about religious and military portrayals an “afterthought.” The case, involving procedural disputes over film certification, will be heard again on January 21, leaving the film’s release uncertain.
El Tribunal Superior de Madras detuvo el lanzamiento de la película de Vijay Jana Nayagan, manteniendo la orden de un tribunal inferior que otorgó un certificado U/A 16.
