In January 2026, seven women from Summit Sisters, a Canadian group of Indigenous and non-Indigenous roofers founded in 2022 by Samanntha De Coteau, traveled to Jamaica to help repair homes damaged by Hurricane Melissa, one of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes on record, which struck in late October 2025 and caused at least 45 deaths.
The team, which paid for their own flights, used donated tools and materials through Operation Blessing and worked with CanJam Relief Mission to restore essential housing.
