The Indian Ministry of Defence has fully implemented a 100% increase in financial aid for ex-servicemen and their dependents, effective January 10, 2026.
The changes, approved in October 2025 by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, include doubling the Penury Grant to ₹8,000 monthly for elderly, non-pensioner veterans and widows over 65 with no income, raising the Education Grant to ₹2,000 per child monthly for up to two dependents, and increasing the Marriage Grant to ₹1,00,000 per beneficiary for up to two daughters or widow remarriage.
Funded through the Raksha Mantri Ex-Servicemen Welfare Fund, the enhancements aim to improve social security for lower-income veterans and their families, reflecting the government’s commitment to honoring military service.
