DUP leader warns UK not to compromise on Northern Ireland Troubles Bill changes demanded by Ireland.
DUP leader Gavin Robinson criticized Irish Foreign Minister Helen McEntee’s call for joint UK-Ireland agreement on major changes to the Northern Ireland Troubles Legacy Bill, calling it a “clear challenge” to the UK.
He urged Prime Minister Keir Starmer not to yield to Irish demands, stressing the need to protect military veterans from decades-later legal action and maintain a clear distinction between those who upheld the law and those who committed violence.
While the UK Labour government has proposed new veteran safeguards, including remote testimony, McEntee emphasized that the September joint framework must not be significantly altered without mutual consent.
Robinson also condemned Stormont Finance Minister John O’Dowd’s draft budget for lacking Executive agreement and raising concerns over public services and infrastructure.
