Dr. Ghassan Abu-Sitta cleared of antisemitism and terrorism support charges by UK tribunal.
Dr Ghassan Abu-Sitta, rector of the University of Glasgow and a Palestinian-born surgeon, has been cleared by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service of misconduct over allegations of antisemitism and support for terrorism.
The tribunal found no evidence that a 2018 article or two social media posts were antisemitic or incited violence, noting the article criticized Palestinian political elites and the tweets were expressions of solidarity, not support for terrorism.
The panel could not determine when the tweets were posted, making it impossible to assess compliance with the 2021 ban on Hamas’ political wing.
Dr Abu-Sitta, who said he faced racial profiling and politically motivated scrutiny, called the complaint part of an effort to silence critics of Israeli policy.
The GMC had argued his speech crossed into misconduct, but the tribunal rejected that claim, affirming his fitness to practice medicine.
