Actor Kamal Haasan has urged reform of India’s film certification process, calling for transparency, defined timelines, and written justifications for edits, amid the delayed release of Thalapathy Vijay’s film Jana Nayagan.
Speaking on social media, Haasan emphasized that artistic freedom is a constitutional right and criticized the Central Board of Film Certification’s opaque procedures, warning they undermine creativity, disrupt livelihoods, and weaken public trust.
He called for unity in the film industry and constructive dialogue with government bodies to uphold democratic values and ensure fair, timely certification.
The film remains unreleased as the Madras High Court prepares to hear arguments on January 21.
