Latvia starts building its first domestic artillery munitions plant to produce 50,000 charges yearly by late 2026.
Latvia has begun constructing a new munitions plant in Iecava, its first domestic facility to produce modular propellant charges for 155 mm artillery systems.
The ROLLO project, led by Latvia’s state defence company with partners Nammo and KNDS, will manufacture about 50,000 charges annually starting in late 2026, primarily for Latvia’s military with surplus for NATO allies.
Funded by Latvia and the EU, the facility is being built by Latvian firm UPB Nams in a remote, state-owned area.
The project supports broader European efforts to boost ammunition production and strengthen defence readiness along NATO’s eastern border.
