Hancock County to review 9 opioid fund applications by March 2026 for prevention, treatment, and emergency services.
Hancock County commissioners will review nine applications for $1.6 million in opioid settlement funds by March 2026, with final decisions pending the 2026-2027 budget.
Funds, from West Virginia’s settlement with opioid producers, must be used for prevention, intervention, rehabilitation, education, or emergency services.
While some commissioners suggest using funds for sheriff’s and fire department needs, others advocate for direct opioid response programs.
Commission President Eron Chek said full budget details will be available in early March.
The commission also reappointed Chek and approved administrative updates.
