UK taxpayers must file 2024-2025 tax returns by Jan. 31, 2026, or face penalties and interest.
Martin Lewis has urged over 5.6 million UK taxpayers to file their 2024-2025 self-assessment tax returns by January 31, 2026, warning of a £100 penalty and 7.75% interest on unpaid tax for late submissions.
He emphasized that anyone who received a tax form from HMRC must file, even if they believe they don’t owe anything, including self-employed individuals earning over £1,000, those with savings or investment income over £10,000, and people receiving child benefit with income above £60,000.
Lewis advised making a rough estimate of tax owed and paying it early to avoid interest, even if adjustments are needed later.
Key documents include P60s, bank statements, and records of income and expenses.
