Supreme Court delays ruling on wife’s challenge to climate activist Sonam Wangchuk’s NSA detention.
The Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing on a plea by Gitanjali J Angmo, wife of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, challenging his detention under India’s National Security Act to January 8, 2026.
Wangchuk, arrested in September 2025 after violent protests in Ladakh that left four dead and 90 injured, is accused of inciting unrest.
His wife argues the detention is unlawful, citing outdated charges, vague claims, and no direct link to the alleged grounds, calling it an abuse of preventive powers.
The case raises concerns about the use of the NSA, which allows up to 12 months of detention without trial, and the balance between national security and individual rights.
The court has not yet ruled on the petition’s merits.
