NHS Scotland deploys mobile clinics to home patients, cutting waits, beds, and costs.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has launched a mobile diagnostics vehicle to deliver X-rays, ultrasounds, blood, and urine tests directly to patients’ homes in Glasgow, targeting elderly and mobility-limited individuals.
The service, supported by the Society of Radiographers in Scotland, aims to reduce hospital wait times and admissions, with pilot programs showing a four-hour average reduction in wait times, nearly 10 saved hospital bed days per patient, and £1,008 in cost savings per avoided admission.
The initiative also seeks to address Scotland’s radiographer shortage by offering community-based career opportunities.
