New York proposes strict new laws in Jan 2026 to ban 3D-printed guns, blueprints, and pistol converters amid rising ghost gun seizures.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul has introduced legislation in January 2026 to crack down on 3D-printed and other illegal firearms, requiring 3D printer manufacturers to block gun production, banning the sale or possession of digital blueprints for unlicensed firearm manufacturing, and mandating reporting of 3D-printed guns to a state database.
The measures also target pistol converters that enable semi-automatic handguns to fire rapidly, aiming to prevent DIY machine guns.
The proposals, part of her State of the State agenda, follow over 569 illegal ghost guns seized since October 2024 and reflect New York’s push to maintain the nation’s strictest gun laws amid evolving technology.
