India's drone industry advances as new Chennai facility opens, boosting local production and pilot training.
The DGCA’s Faiz Ahmed Kidwai inaugurated a new drone battery manufacturing facility in Chennai for Garuda Aerospace, a startup backed by MS Dhoni, during the Bharat Drone Udaan event.
The facility supports India’s push for indigenous drone production and reduces reliance on imports.
Kidwai also opened an expanded training block at Garuda’s DGCA-approved pilot training center, boosting capacity across agriculture, defense, and logistics.

Garuda Aerospace, the first to receive DGCA approvals for both manufacturing and training, has produced over 3,000 drones and trained more than 2,500 pilots, citing government policies as key to its growth.
