India raids 15 sites in 6 states to expose a fake government job scam using forged emails and fake paychecks.
On January 8, 2026, India’s Enforcement Directorate conducted raids at 15 locations across six states—Bihar, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh—in a coordinated effort to dismantle a large-scale fake government job scam.
The operation targeted an organized gang that used forged emails mimicking official government domains to issue fraudulent appointment letters for positions across over 40 government departments, including Indian Railways, the Income Tax Department, and state secretariats.
To gain victims’ trust, the group reportedly paid initial salaries for two to three months for some falsely appointed individuals.
The investigation, led by the Patna ED office, is ongoing, with authorities working to uncover the full scope of the network.
