Idaho pediatricians warn HB 345 could cut pediatric care; urge emergency fix to save case management program.
The Pocatello Children’s Clinic warns that Idaho’s 2025 House Bill 345, which plans to transition Medicaid to Managed Care Organizations by 2029, could trigger a primary care crisis without reinstating the Healthy Connections Case Management program.
The clinic urges lawmakers to pass an emergency amendment to maintain the program, which coordinates care for Medicaid patients, reduces emergency room visits, and supports preventive and after-hours services.
Without it, the state faces a $400–$600 million annual budget shortfall and widespread loss of pediatric care access, especially in rural areas.
The clinic, representing most pediatricians in southeastern Idaho, says eliminating the program threatens community health practices and long-term cost savings.
With the Idaho Legislature set to convene on January 12, the clinic is urging residents to contact their legislators to support the amendment and protect essential care.
