South Carolina launched SCAN, a telemedicine network to improve Alzheimer’s diagnosis and care amid a neurologist shortage.
South Carolina, facing a severe neurologist shortage and one of the highest Alzheimer’s rates in the U.S., has launched the South Carolina Alzheimer’s Network (SCAN) led by MUSC.
The program uses an online eConsult platform to connect primary care providers with specialists, enabling faster, more accurate diagnoses and coordinated care.
SCAN supports early detection with advanced tools while cautioning against overreliance on biomarkers that may cause misdiagnosis.
It also facilitates access to new treatments, clinical trials, and telemedicine, and is the only South Carolina health system in Medicare’s GUIDE model for dementia care.
Carolina del Sur lanzó SCAN, una red de telemedicina para mejorar el diagnóstico y la atención de la enfermedad de Alzheimer en medio de una escasez de neurólogos.
