No charges will be filed against Deputy Cameron Bridger for shooting Alice Nesdahl during a hostage standoff in Grand Forks on December 5, 2026.
On January 6, 2026, Grand Forks County State’s Attorney Haley Wamstad announced no criminal charges would be filed against Deputy Cameron Bridger in connection with the December 5 shooting of Alice Nesdahl, 47, during a hostage incident in Grand Forks.
Officers responded to an apartment where Nesdahl held 56-year-old Donald Kostrzewski hostage, repeatedly threatening him with a knife.
Drone footage confirmed Nesdahl was armed, and when she raised the knife to Kostrzewski’s throat during a warrantless entry, Bridger fired four shots, fatally injuring her.
The state’s attorney concluded the use of force was justified under North Dakota law, citing imminent danger and the necessity of immediate intervention.
