A U.S. Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter conducted a challenging rescue around 11:30 a.m., hoisting all nine to safety in about 25 minutes despite strong downdrafts and turbulence.
They were flown to St. Paul Island for medical evaluation due to limited emergency services on St. George.
No injuries were reported.
The Coast Guard deployed a helicopter, C-130 plane, and cutter in the operation.
The Arctic Sea, owned by the Coastal Villages Region Fund, will be salvaged by Resolve Marine.
Local residents reiterated the need for a closer Coast Guard presence in the remote Pribilof Islands.
