A major U.S. airport broke federal law by spending surplus revenue on non-aviation projects, FAA says.
The Federal Aviation Administration has determined that a major U.S. airport violated federal law by using surplus revenue from airport operations for purposes beyond authorized aviation projects, according to a formal notice issued on January 6, 2026.
The FAA stated the funds, generated from landing fees and other airport-related sources, must be reinvested into airport infrastructure or returned to the federal government.
The airport has 30 days to respond to the findings and correct the issue.
