Indigenous doctor David Parsons, 26, survives severe crash injuries days after graduation, aided by community fundraising.
Twenty-six-year-old Indigenous doctor David Parsons, a recent University of Newcastle graduate and member of the Worimi and Biripi peoples, sustained severe injuries in a December 22 car crash near Taree just days after graduation.
His vehicle was struck by an out-of-control motorhome, causing a traumatic brain injury, broken ribs, a shattered hip, and a fractured collarbone.
After a coma, he regained consciousness and gave his family a thumbs-up.
A dedicated student, artist, and community volunteer, Parsons is now recovering with support from an outpouring of community aid that raised over $70,000 via GoFundMe to cover medical and travel costs, with surplus funds to benefit Aboriginal causes and medical students.
