Florence launches camera registration program for crime prevention, facing privacy concerns.
Florence is expanding its surveillance efforts with a new camera registration program for residents and businesses, aiming to improve crime investigations.
Over 100 businesses have joined, granting police real-time access, while home users can register cameras via Flock Safety for free, with police only accessing footage after a crime.
The city is also facing public scrutiny over its use of Flock’s automatic license plate readers, with residents raising privacy concerns, including past incidents of deactivated cameras being reactivated.
The City Council will continue evaluating the program, with a decision expected in late January.
Meanwhile, the Florence Regional Arts Alliance launched a new website, and Lane County’s LIHEAP program began accepting applications amid reduced funding.
