FEMA approves disaster loans for Maine businesses hit by May 2025 storms.
The U.S. Small Business Administration has approved federal disaster loans for Maine businesses and nonprofits affected by severe May 2025 weather, including heavy rain, unseasonably cold temperatures, and a rare spring nor’easter during Memorial Day weekend.
The declaration covers all 16 Maine counties and allows eligible small businesses, cooperatives, nurseries, and private nonprofits—excluding traditional farmers and ranchers but including aquaculture enterprises—to use loans for payroll, debts, and operating costs.
The aid follows earlier support for drought-related losses and aims to help recovery from economic disruptions tied to the extreme weather.
