Delhi High Court orders removal of social media posts falsely linking BJP’s Dushyant Gautam to 2022 murder, citing defamation and reputational harm.
The Delhi High Court has ordered the removal of social media posts linking BJP leader Dushyant Kumar Gautam to the 2022 murder of Ankita Bhandari, finding a prima facie case of defamation and potential irreparable harm to his reputation.
The interim order, issued January 7, 2026, requires the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, actor Urmila Sanawar, and others to cease sharing content alleging Gautam was the “VIP” in the case, with platforms like Meta required to comply if they fail.
The ruling follows claims based on audio and video clips, some allegedly AI-generated, that were widely circulated despite no evidence linking Gautam to the crime.
The original case involved the conviction of the resort owner and two employees, who were sentenced to life imprisonment.
The matter will be heard again on May 4.
