Caltech has named astrophysicist Ray Jayawardhana, currently provost at Johns Hopkins University, as its next president, effective July 1, 2026, succeeding Thomas F. Rosenbaum.
Jayawardhana, a leading expert in exoplanets and former dean at Cornell, will lead the Pasadena-based institution amid federal funding cuts affecting scientific research, including at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
