BCP Council started replacing seven aging timber groynes at Boscombe Beach in Jan 2026 to fight erosion and protect the shoreline.
Work has begun on a two-year project to replace seven aging timber groynes at Boscombe Beach, led by BCP Council, with the first phase replacing two groynes at Boscombe Beach East from January to March 2026. The initiative, launched in October 2025, aims to combat coastal erosion by managing longshore drift and preserving beach stability. The remaining three groynes west of Boscombe Pier will be renewed in autumn or winter 2026. Once complete, all 56 timber groynes across Bournemouth’s beaches will be renewed as part of a long-term coastal management strategy to protect the shoreline and maintain public access.
