Two Mesa High School administrators, Principal Kirk Thomas and Athletic Director David Klecka, have been charged with failing to report a Feb. 12, 2025, campus assault involving a student and a firearm, according to Mesa Police. Both were placed on paid administrative leave following an internal district review that found they did not follow mandatory reporting protocols. The district confirmed charges were filed over winter break and is cooperating with law enforcement and the Arizona State Board of Education’s Investigative Unit, reaffirming its commitment to student safety and compliance.
