A woman has been charged with child abandonment and failing to provide necessaries of life after a newborn was found unharmed in a shoebox at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Toronto on December 21, 2025.
Police responded around 10:40 a.m. to the Yonge Street and Broadway Avenue location, where the infant was discovered by parishioners and taken to a hospital, where she was reported to be doing well.
The mother, whose identity is protected, has been charged and is receiving medical and support services.
The church referred inquiries to police, who confirmed the investigation is ongoing.
