Terry Bryden, 80, a cherished figure at Central Newcastle Rugby League Football Club, has died after battling throat cancer.
Over more than 50 years, he served in nearly every role at the club, from groundskeeper to president, and was instrumental in founding the 'Cleaver Club' and publishing club newsletters.
Though he never played for the Butcher Boys, he was a constant presence at St John Oval, helping secure upgrades like new lighting and earning life memberships in Central, the Newcastle Rugby League, and Clubs NSW.
He participated in the 2024 Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride and received widespread tributes for his dedication and integrity.
He is survived by his wife Toni, children, and grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
