South Australian independent MP Nick McBride, 56, has been granted home detention bail after being charged with six aggravated assault counts related to alleged incidents at his family’s Conmurra Station property. Appearing via video from Mt Gambier Prison, he denied all allegations and was released to a family property 38km to 75km from the victim’s residence, subject to a 50-meter exclusion zone, an ankle monitor, and a $5,000 surety. The court cited the upcoming March election and potential trial delays as special circumstances. He is due back in court on January 30 and plans to run for re-election.
