Simon Goss set a new world record by shearing 732 ewes in nine hours, surpassing the 2016 record.
New Zealand shearer Simon Goss set a new world record by shearing 732 strongwool ewes in nine hours at Te Pa Station, surpassing the previous record of 731 set in 2016. The feat, confirmed by video replay and a fifth umpire, was completed just seconds before the deadline. Goss, 29, maintained a steady pace averaging over 140 sheep per hour and remained calm under pressure. The event drew a live audience and global livestream viewership. Matthew Smith, the former record holder, praised Goss’s performance. The sheep weighed at least 3kg each, and the record was verified by a sample shear. Goss, brother of rugby star Sarah Hirini, is now co-holder of a two-stand lambs record.
