Quebec's Liberal Party appoints ethics officer ahead of leadership race amid past donation allegations.
The Quebec Liberal Party has named lawyer Julien Morissette as ethics officer for its leadership race, following allegations of vote-buying and improper donations during former leader Pablo Rodriguez’s brief tenure.
The nine-week contest begins January 12, requiring candidates to collect 750 signatures and pay a $30,000 deposit.
Campaign spending is limited to $120,000, excluding the deposit, with a new leader to be chosen at a convention on March 14.
Rodriguez resigned in December 2025, denying any wrongdoing.
Quebec’s next general election is scheduled for October 5, 2026.
