North Dakota’s new superintendent is touring all school districts to inform education policy.
North Dakota’s new State Superintendent Levi Bachmeier is visiting all 167 school districts to gain firsthand insights into education challenges and opportunities, starting with a December 8 trip to Marmarth.
He has completed multiple visits, including several in early January, with 33 more scheduled through late March.
Bachmeier, who took office in November after Kirsten Baesler’s departure, emphasizes unscripted, in-person classroom observations to inform state decisions and support accountability.
A former teacher and policy adviser, he views the tour as essential to improving North Dakota’s education system.
Meanwhile, five candidates are under consideration for a vacant seat on the State Board of Higher Education, with a nominating committee set to recommend finalists on January 13.
The governor will appoint a nominee, subject to Senate confirmation, to serve until June 2029.
