Michigan is allocating $77.6 million from its 2026 budget to clean up and redevelop brownfield sites through the RenewMI program, aiming to address contamination, revitalize communities, create jobs, and reduce urban sprawl.
The Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy is working with local leaders in Dearborn and advancing legislation to double grant and loan limits to $2 million per project, remove project caps per community, and simplify applications.
The program has previously supported 474 projects across 50+ communities, generating over 20,000 jobs and $8.3 billion in private investment.
