Manitoba finds six new CWD cases in wild deer, elk, moose; Wisconsin reports first case in Clark County, extending baiting ban.
Manitoba reports six new cases of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in wild deer, elk, and moose, including three in areas previously free of the disease.
The province, which has tested over 14,000 cervids since 1997, urges hunters and landowners to submit samples, practice safe carcass handling, and avoid transporting high-risk tissues.
Meanwhile, Wisconsin confirms its first CWD case in Clark County, a hunter-harvested doe located more than 10 miles from any other county boundary.
The finding triggers a three-year extension of the county’s existing baiting and feeding ban, as required by state law, to limit disease spread.
CWD is fatal to cervids, has no cure, and while not known to infect humans, health officials recommend testing deer meat from affected areas.
