Ladakh to build a Rs 786 crore medical college with 85% seats for local tribes, backed by PM Modi and Lt. Gov. Gupta.

Ladakh will build a new medical college costing Rs 786 crore, with 85% of seats reserved for local Scheduled Tribes, following land acquisition and a meeting between Lt. Governor Kavinder Gupta and Prime Minister Modi. The territory is also installing three Tesla MRI machines in Kargil, upgrading Leh and Kargil hospitals, and adding oxygen chambers to combat high-altitude health issues. With 32 primary health centres and 288 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs already in place, Ladakh’s health budget is 8.76%, slightly above the national average.
