Kentucky opens LIHEAP Crisis Assistance Jan. 6, 2026, for low-income residents facing urgent heating emergencies.
Starting January 6, 2026, Kentucky residents can apply for LIHEAP Crisis Assistance through local Community Action Agencies in all 120 counties, with funds available until March 27 or until exhausted.
The program aids households facing urgent heating emergencies like loss of heat, low fuel, or eviction due to unpaid bills, with eligibility based on income at or below 150% of the federal poverty level.
Benefits, up to $400 for gas or electric or the local fuel supply cost, are paid directly to providers.
Applicants must provide proof of identity, income, utility bills, account details, and disconnect notices if applicable.
Reapplying is allowed for each crisis event.
Assistance is available via local offices or by calling 800-456-3452, with online resources at capky.org.
The program is funded by a federal grant and administered by Community Action Kentucky and the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services.
