Jagannath University students voted in 2026 elections for student leaders after a delay due to former PM's death.
Voting began on January 6, 2026, for Jagannath University’s Central Students’ Union and Hall Council elections, marking the first time the polls were held since being postponed due to the death of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
Over 16,000 students voted across 39 centers and 178 booths, choosing from 157 candidates for 21 JnUCSU positions and 33 for 13 Hall Council posts.
The process, conducted under strict security, used OMR machines to count votes, with results to be announced live.
Major competing groups include panels backed by Chhatra Dal, Chhatra Shibir, Chhatra Shakti, and the leftist Maulana Bhasani Brigade.
No major irregularities were reported, and voter turnout was strong, including significant female participation.
