Iowa House Democrats have introduced a property tax relief plan for 2026, proposing a 4% annual cap on residential tax increases, a freeze for homeowners 65 and older, $1,000 rebates for homeowners and $500 for renters over two years, and a tripling of the Homestead Tax Credit.
The plan also includes state funding for public safety retirement contributions and expanded down payment assistance.
