Florida’s immigration operation led to over 10,400 arrests, 63% with prior crimes, and nearly 3,000 deportations.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced that Operation Tidal Wave, a state-federal immigration enforcement effort launched in April 2025, has resulted in over 10,400 arrests of individuals believed to be in the U.S. illegally, with about 63% having prior criminal records.
The operation, involving all 67 counties through 287(g) agreements, has led to nearly 20,000 immigration-related arrests when including local actions.
DeSantis highlighted 93 deportation flights from the state’s “Deportation Depot” in Sanderson, carrying nearly 3,000 people, and announced plans for a new detention facility in the Panhandle pending federal approval.
The initiative has drawn praise from Republicans for strengthening public safety and enforcement, while Democrats and civil rights advocates criticize the use of repeated emergency declarations, lack of transparency, and concerns over due process and detainee treatment.
