Detroit is launching the Rx Kids program, providing expectant and new mothers with a $1,500 payment during pregnancy and $500 monthly for six months after birth, with no income requirements.
The initiative, part of a statewide effort expanded in 2024 from Flint, aims to reduce financial hardship and improve child outcomes.
Funded by state, local, and private sources, Detroit has raised $9 million toward its rollout, with $2.5 million still needed.
The city will contribute $500,000 annually for three years.
