The Archdiocese of New Orleans holds private meetings for abuse survivors, part of a $230 million settlement, following a public apology by Archbishop Aymond.
The Archdiocese of New Orleans will hold 10 private meetings from February 6–10 for survivors of clergy sexual abuse, led by Archbishop Gregory Aymond, as part of a $230 million bankruptcy settlement.
The sessions, at various parish locations, are open to those abused by clergy or church employees in the archdiocese and aim to provide a space for sharing and questions.
The meetings follow a public apology from Aymond, required by the settlement, in which he expressed regret and took responsibility, though some survivors reject the gesture as insincere.
Over 650 survivors are set to receive payments starting in spring, while a separate court upheld a $400,000 fine against attorney Richard Trahant for violating a protective order.
