Universal Music Group has acquired a 30% stake in Mumbai-based Excel Entertainment, co-founded by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, valuing the company at ₹2,400 crore. The deal grants UMG global distribution rights for Excel’s future film soundtracks, launches a dedicated Excel music label under UMG’s global reach, and makes Universal Music Publishing Group Excel’s exclusive music publishing partner. UMG’s Devraj Sanyal will join Excel’s board, while Akhtar and Sidhwani retain creative control. The partnership aims to expand both companies’ presence in India’s growing entertainment market.
