Supreme Court orders government to review PF wage cap within four months.
The Supreme Court has directed the central government to review and decide within four months on revising the Employees Provident Fund Scheme’s wage ceiling of ₹15,000, unchanged for over a decade.
The order followed a petition by activist Naveen Prakash Nautiyal, who argued the outdated cap excludes higher-earning workers, undermining the scheme’s social security purpose.
The court acknowledged that wage revisions have been inconsistent and disconnected from inflation and rising minimum wages, despite prior recommendations for periodic updates.
While dismissing the petition, the court required the petitioner to submit a formal representation, with the government to respond within four months.
