flag Sligo named Ireland’s cleanest town in 2025 survey, with Dublin’s North Inner City last, despite progress from Deposit Return Scheme.

In the 2025 Irish Business Against Litter survey, Sligo was named Ireland's cleanest town for the first time, while Waterford continued to hold the title of cleanest city. Dublin's North Inner City remained at the bottom of the list, while 10 out of 13 urban areas improved and Limerick's Galvone area attained clean status for the first time. Cans and plastic bottles have decreased by 10% a year and 60% since 2024 thanks to the Deposit Return Scheme, and no bottle banks have ever been designated as litter blackspots. However, single-use coffee cups and disposable vapes continue to be issues, with coffee cups being present at one-fifth of locations.
